Caring for Your Art

<< Back

Care and preservation of your art ensures that it will retain it's value.

Protect your art from Light and Extremes:

Never expose any type of artwork to prolonged sunlight or other harsh conditions. It should be protected from moisture and should not be place in direct sunlight. Do not hang or store your art where sunlight can affect it. Ultraviolet light is one of the biggest reasons that art fades. Light damage is cumulative and not reversable! Direct sunlight, even for a short period each day will damage your art. If the sunlight will hit your art, even for a short time, during the year, close your blinds or have your windows covered with UV film. Display or store your art in areas that the temperature does not change drastically from hot to cold.

Do Gicleés require special care?

We do recommend that customers treat their Giclée prints the same as they would an original piece of art. Giclées printed on canvas are treated with an acrylic varnish to aid in their protection, however careful treatment is still desirable.  If the reproduction is printed on paper or for any reason has not been coated, it must be protected from moisture by glass.

Framing:

Use preservation-quality materials for framing: acid free mats, museum mounting and UV glass for the best possible light protection of reproductions on paper, whether they're Gicleés or Lithographs.

Canvas reproductions do not need glass but in some cases, extreme temperature or humidity changes can create the need to have your framed art restretched. Gently dust surface with a soft dry brush or use a protable air cleaner to attract dust particles.
